October 19, 2020 The Printing Press: Pennsylvania Gazette 1739

MONDAY/TUESDAY:

  1. Review of Clicker Questions for Chapter 4
  2. Today we are going to be looking at a copy of a primary source, The Pennsylvania Gazette from 1739. It is equally important to understand a bit about the history of the printing press and amount of time and energy that went into printing a paper in the 1700's. After viewing the video clips and participating in a classroom activity, you will have a better understanding of Colonial times and the audience for which the paper was produced for.

Be sure to note the work involved in setting up simple pages for printing. You will have to think about what it would take to print an entire newspaper, and think about the graphics you see in our sample paper today.  ----
